Good news! We ship to most of the world. Less fun news - your country’s tax office dictates most of the costs. Here’s exactly what you’ll pay, and when, so nothing turns up at your door unannounced.
How our prices work
Prices outside South Africa don’t include South African taxes (VAT). Our South African prices include 15% VAT. When an order leaves the country, we take that off, which lowers the price by about 13%: a piece worth 100 at South African prices costs 87 everywhere else, whatever your currency.
Your duties and taxes are paid upfront. Whatever your country charges on imports is either already in the price (US) or added at checkout (everywhere else). Either way, no additional fees on delivery will be charged.
Checkout is in rand (ZAR). The prices you see in your currency are approximate. Your bank converts the final amount, so it may differ slightly.
Shipping is calculated at checkout and always shows as its own line, so you can see exactly what you’re paying for. A single piece typically costs about $40 to the US, £25 to the UK, €45 to the EU and A$55 to Australia. Delivery takes 5–15 business days, depending on the shipping option you choose.
What you’ll pay: an example for each country
Each example uses a piece worth 100 at South African prices, shown in your own currency. Scale it up for your order. All amounts are approximate.
🇺🇸 United States: duties included in the price
US prices include import duty and the US tariff on goods made in South Africa, so nothing is added at checkout and there’s nothing to pay when your parcel arrives.
| Amount | |
|---|---|
| South African price | $100 |
| Less South African VAT | $87 |
| US duty (depends on fabric, about 8–32%) + the 12.5% US tariff on South African goods + a small buffer for clearance fees | about +26% to +50% |
| What you pay (example: a cotton trouser) | about $117, plus shipping |
| On delivery | Nothing |
Duty depends on the fabric. Cotton pieces carry the least; synthetic knits carry the most. That’s why our US prices vary from piece to piece.
🇬🇧 United Kingdom: UK VAT added at checkout
| Amount | |
|---|---|
| South African price | £100 |
| Product price (no South African VAT) | £87 |
| UK duty (orders under £135) | None |
| UK VAT, added at checkout | 20% of the product and shipping, about £17 on an £87 piece |
| Import and clearance fees | Included in the duties and taxes at checkout |
| On delivery | Nothing |
Orders over £135 may also include import duty of up to about 12%. This is added at checkout too.
🇪🇺 European Union: VAT and a small flat duty added at checkout
| Amount | |
|---|---|
| South African price | €100 |
| Product price (no South African VAT) | €87 |
| EU duty (orders under €150), added at checkout | A flat €3 per type of item. Some countries, like France, add a small extra fee per item type. |
| EU VAT, added at checkout | 19–25% of the product, shipping and duty, depending on your country (Germany: 19%, about €17 on an €87 piece) |
| Import and clearance fees | Included in the duties and taxes at checkout |
| On delivery | Nothing |
Orders over €150 may also include import duty of up to about 12%. This is added at checkout too.
🇦🇺 Australia: nothing extra under A$1,000
A piece worth A$100 at South African prices costs A$87, plus shipping. Orders under A$1,000 pay no duty and no GST, and nothing is due on delivery.
Everywhere else
Any import duties and taxes for your country are calculated and added at checkout, alongside shipping. No additional fees on delivery will be charged.
Who’s the courier, and can I track it?
We ship with UPS & FedEx through TUNL. You’ll get a tracking link by email as soon as your order leaves our Cape Town studio.
You can always reach out regarding any queries to our customer service team via helpme@rethread.store, or our WhatsApp line at +27 67 304 9804.
Returns from outside South Africa
We strongly discourage international returns. Sending a parcel back to South Africa means paying for shipping as well as South African import duties and taxes, which can easily cost more than the piece itself. If you’d still like to go ahead, we accept international returns and exchanges within our returns policy, and we’ll help you through the process, from getting a shipping quote to arranging the courier. All costs are your own. Please see our returns page for the full policy and a practical case study of what a return really costs.
FAQs
Will I pay anything on delivery?
No. US prices already include duties, and for every other country, duties and taxes are added at checkout. No additional fees on delivery will be charged. What you see at checkout, is your total landing cost.
What currency will I be charged in?
Rand (ZAR). Your bank converts it, so the final amount may differ slightly from the estimate shown on our site.
Why is the price different from the South African site?
Because South African VAT doesn’t apply to orders leaving South Africa, and for the US we include duties in the price so you don’t pay anything extra.
How long will it take?
5–15 business days, depending on the shipping option you choose.
